This week, Akash Pathak, the treasurer and board member of Center for Enriched Living joined us to tell us all about them. CEL is an organization located in Riverwoods focused on enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities by maximizing their opportunities for personal success, fun & friendship, employment, and community involvement. He became interested and involved with the organization because he has two nieces with developmental disabilities. Among their programs are: day programs like REACH and Catalyst. REACH Day Program provides year-round, community-based opportunities and activities for continued learning and growth for adults who have finished high school or are at least 18 years old. The Catalyst Adult Day Program is designed to support personal growth and independence for our members with intellectual and developmental disabilities by focusing on learning life skills. There are also social events and excursions and job skills with a focus on employment. CEL does help their members find jobs. This month's theme is basic education and literacy. Our service project for September is at Bernie's Book Bank followed by dinner at The Silo in Lake Bluff. You do need to register with Bernie's Book Bank. You can do that here: https://cerv.is/0042rRCLFLB -mb OUR NEXT MEETING IS SEPTEMBER 16th at 1p at FBHP.
