Notes From the June 7th Meeting

President Eric Ephraim welcomed members, Rotarian Bill Wax newly replanted from Omaha, and our speaker, Linda Hanson and her fan club. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test.

There is NO meeting next Wednesday, June 14th. We will meet on the 21st when Aaron Arnold from Waukegan2College will speak.
Join us June 28th at 28 Mile Distillery as we thank our outgoing officers and directors and welcome our new ones! More info to follow...
Don't forget!
With SNAP benefits severely reduced, and high use of our Food Pantry, food is going out as quickly as it comes in and our shelves  look sparce quickly.
Shopping for your family? Consider picking up an extra item for the Panty.
Here’s a list of foods our clients enjoy that our shelves are low on:
  1. Salad dressings
  2. Canned salmon
  3. Instant/boxed rice
  4. Cooking oil
  5. Sugar
  6. Condiments: olives, pickles

Happy Dollars
You don't have to wait until meeting day to share your happiness! Click on the yellow box below, donate your happy dollars and then email Mary Beth at hphwrotary@gmail.com and tell her what you're happy about!
This week, members were happy for:  Eric Ephraim was happy to welcome Bill Wax and our speaker, Linda Hanson and her fan club. He also is loving the full house with both boys home for the summer. Len Tenner was happy to have his oldest friends, Stuart Taussig and Ron Domsky at the meeting!
The Day's Program
Linda Hanson, Ed.D.,  happens to be Brad Swanson's mother. Linda was an art teacher and then later superintendent at Mundelein HS. She also was Superintendent for  D113. Her book, "Woman Up! Finding Equality" was published in September. This book began as her "pandemic project".  She shared stories of women through time and how men of science continued to proclaim women weren't smart enough because their heads (and therefore their brains) were smaller, or the hysterics of women was a deterrent for women wanting to be taken seriously to overcome. There is also the statistics that even now, women are paid less than men for the same jobs.  After sharing points in the book, we discussed the path to equality. Linda feels that will happen only through legislation and the power of the vote.  Her book is available on Amazon.
Those of you not able to make it, we missed you!
