The Day's Program
Alan Wahlert is the Director of Learning and Communication for TrueNorth School District and has come several times to share with us what's happening at TrueNorthToday, he explained TrueNorth's Workforce Development Initiative. WDI is transition planning for a student’s road map to life after high school. Alan stressed this is a journey, NOT a place or program. TrueNorth has partnered with the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce to connect local businesses with a ready workforce.

They have shifted from the traditional recruitment model to be more inclusive and be more proactive in our efforts to find unique employment opportunities. The skills we teach our students translates well into employment situations and we seek partnerships that are mutually beneficial; when local businesses hire our students, they not only improve the students experience, they also improve their workspace, but also positively impact the community we live in!

Here's just a few places our students work or have worked:
  1. Highland Park Ford
  2. Judy’s Pizza
  3. Illinois Bone and Joint Institute
  4. Gordon’s Salon
  5. Summer Youth Employment Program through Lake County
  6. Bluegrass Restaurant
  7. Courtyard Marriott Highland Park/Northbrook

OUR NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY, JUNE 3rd

If you know of someone we should hear from, please let me know so we can schedule speakers.
