Happy Dollars
This week, we had one great Happy Dollars story from Mike Mills: The story begins during the Civil war when his great-grandfather John H. Mills joined the Union army and was with the 21st Regiment of New YOrk. During the war, he was wounded in the hip. After he recovered, he returned him and the traveled to Colorado where he became a wildlife observer and painter.  Jump ahead to present day, and Mike's daughter in Portland, Oregon found on eBay a painting by J. H. Mills for $5,000. Cokey Evans (who we all know as a lovely woman) told Mike that she loves his family so much, that she bought the painting so it could be returned to the family. They received notice that Fed Ex delivered the package. Five weeks later, they are still waiting for it! Finally, Mike contacted the HP Police Department. The Police reviewed the building's video and found that the day Fed Ex delivered, it was among a couple other boxes. One man in the building picked up all the boxes without reading the labels. He promptly placed them in his closet until he was ready to start a project. That is where the painting sat for those five weeks. Mike, Cokey and his family are forever grateful to HPPD!

You don't have to wait until meeting day to share your happiness! Click on the yellow box below, donate your happy dollars and then email Mary Beth at hphwrotary@gmail.com and tell her what you're happy about!

The Day's Program
Doris Xie brought the Club up to date with The Rotary Foundation's financial goals. Many of those goals will benefit the community projects to Clubs around the world, and of course, the End Polio Now campaign. November will be The Rotary Foundation's 115th anniversary. To help kick off the celebration, Clubs can use this as a way to build contributions to the Global Fund.

The District goals for 2021-22 are to increase the participation by 125% from last year, increase the number of Rotarians contributing to the Annual Fund by 10%, as well as an increase in PolioPlus participation in dollars and the number of Rotarians contributing to the PolioPlus fund by 10%.

To get a better picture of The Rotary Foundation's and District's goals, you can see Doris' report by clicking here.
