Happy Dollars
Karen Dennis was happy to have next week off because she will get to see all her grandchildren! Skip Jacobs was happy there wasn't any snow, and he will see us in May. Robert Mardrossian from the Winnetka/Northfield Club was happy to be here once again on a make up meeting. It was great to see him! Christopher Dale was happy to be at a meeting with us but also that two of his residents at Arbor Terrace are over 100 years old and they will be having family visiting them and that makes him very happy! Christopher - it's great to have you with us! Neil Dahlmann was thankful to be here - in July, he was hit with some health issues and should be good as new by the end of the year. Phil Lazarus was happy to welcome Neil and our guests, speaker Joey Morelli, and Jessica Stone, a potential new member. Len Tenner was happy to welcome his old friend Robert Mardrossian, and our other guests. He also shared unhappy news - fellow Club member Ron Domsky's grandson died suddenly this past weekend. Len suggested if members want to make a donation, please consider a mental health organization. The Club mailed out a card this morning on behalf of membership. Doris Xie was very happy to welcome Joy Morelli. She was very impressed by his work which is often recorded and available on YouTube.

You don't have to wait until meeting day to share your happiness! Click on the yellow box below, donate your happy dollars and then email Mary Beth at hphwrotary@gmail.com and tell her what you're happy about!

The Day's Program
Our speaker, Joey Morelli of Max's Deli in Highland Park, shared with us his mission of helping people around the world with his non-profit, Joey's Food Fight. Joey has been up front about his addiction problems of the past and that he found through helping others, a great purpose.  Inspired by Jose Andrés, of World Kitchen, Joey's goal is to go to 10 countries in 10 years. Once there, he cooks, gets the mothers to become his sous chefs and he feeds the community he's been asked to go to. He raises money through his social media videos and an occasional corporate sponsor like El Milagro when he went to Mexico.  In Columbia he helped feed a village that is at the mercy of rain causing rivers of mud. The money he raised was able to help some rebuild and build a basketball and volleyball court for the kids. He plans to make recurring trips to these countries to continue his goal of feeding people. He also has a kitchen in Waukegan helping those who are hungry.

He spent six weeks in Ukraine and nearly died when a bomb landed near him, but never detonated. The Ukraine people awed him with their strength and resilience.

Feeding and bringing joy to these children in the communities he's been to, is what brings him joy.

Here are just a couple of videos to give you glimpse of Joey's mission.
