October 7th - DG Marlene Frisbie and the rest of us in attendance were treated with an update from half of the the Interact Board members. Then she shared with out Club her goals for the District that include building membership and public image. She noted the work we have already done. One of her personal goals is to make more people aware of the HPV vaccine that will prevent cervical, genital, anal and head and neck cancer in our children. The vaccine should be given to children 11 - 12. She's found that many pediatricians' offices don't mention this to parents. The Interact Students shared with what they've been doing since the convention in Calgary. They worked at Bernie's Book Bank, Misericordia, and helped with Highwood's Pumpkin Fest. They meet weekly and monthly with their groups and at service projects. October 21st - Georgette Franco is the new Food Service Manager for NSSD112. She was previously at the Fox Lake School District. She shared with us the concern the District has about the many students whose families are not working or receiving a paycheck right now with the shutdown. That means the many of the families at Fort Sheridan. With the presence of ICE in the area, it also means that many families aren't able to get to the stores. There is also the concern of the return of cold weather, The District is very worried about 110 families with the holidays approaching. We've asked Georgette to give us a list of what food is needed for these families and we will work on helping provide baskets or boxes of food. Below are some of the data she shared. OUR NEXT MEETING IS NOVEMBER 4th at 5:30p at MYAC. If anyone else has ideas, has some time on their hands, or has a friend they think would love to know more about Rotary, please respond to this email. |
