Notes From the February 24th Meeting
President Paul Munk welcomed Club members, guests Jennifer Bressler and Lisa Adelmund, who led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Club recited the Four Way Test.
Yesterday, February 23, was Rotary’s 115th Birthday.  Stop a moment and reflect on a century plus 15 of doing good in the world.  You are part of something awesome! You made a really good decision when you said yes to Rotary and joined the People of Action!
If you want to celebrate by taking a virtual tour of Gustavus Loehr’s office where it all   began, let me know and I’ll send you a link  Click here  Each year, thousands of visitors to Rotary headquarters experience Room 711, a recreation of the office where Paul Harris met with his three acquaintances to start a club based on “mutual cooperation and informal friendship.” If you want to see it in person, you can join the TABU group when we take them to RI HQ come April.

The Day's Program
The day's presentation was from Jennifer Bressler and Lisa Adelmund of HP Community Early Learning Center. Lisa Adelmund, Executive Director, has extensive experience as a teacher and center director. Mrs. Adelmund has her Type 04 IL Teaching Certificate as well as a Master’s in Public Administration focusing on non-profit organizational management. Her undergraduate work was completed at Luther College in history, museum methods and secondary education. Mrs. Adelmund’s professional experience surrounds children from working as a nanny and in-home provider to directorships at for- profit and non-profit centers. In 2014, Mrs. Adelmund became Executive Director of “Community”.
Jennifer Bressler was brought on recently as the Director of Development and previously worked as the Director of Grants and Evaluation at Tutoring Chicago.  Prior to her time with Tutoring Chicago, Ms. Bressler directed the JUF Right Start™ and Early Childhood Initiatives program at the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago.  Before that, she spent three years as the Director of High School and College Programs and four years as the Executive Director at East Village Youth Program, a college readiness and support program for under-served Chicago students.  She began her nonprofit career coordinating diversity and anti-bias training for the Anti-Defamation League’s A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute.  She also taught courses for DePaul University’s Technology & Development Department and was a CPS Student Teacher and Summer Fellow at Chicago’s Prosser Career Academy.  Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Simmons College in Boston, MA and a Master’s degree in Education from DePaul University in Chicago.
The Highland Park Community Nursery School and Day Care Center, affectionately known as “Community” was founded in 1951 by Martha Struve Freeman to provide high-quality, affordable, licensed, early childhood education and care to children 2 to 5.
At “Community”, we believe every child deserves to thrive. Our mission is to provide a safe, caring and enriching environment where:
  • Children and families are nurtured and supported and diversity is celebrated.
  • Each child’s individual emotional, social, cognitive and physical development is fostered by a skilled and loving staff.
  • Play is valued and natural curiosity is encouraged.
  • Interpersonal relationships and collaboration are emphasized and seen as avenues for growth and trust.
Jen and Lisa discussed the transition of school this past November moving into their new location on 640 Ridge Road Highland Park, from the Karger Center downtown HP. The brand new manufactured buildings came at a much needed time and the kids are now settled into their new location which now feels “like home”.
Thanks to Mike Babian for his notes!
