The Day's Program
Dr. Chad Prodromos spoke to us about how the results of stem cell research has changed the way doctors will soon be treating several diseases and ailments. Dr Chad is currently the President of the Illinois Sportsmedicine and Orthopaedic Centers which has offices in Glenview, Chicago and Naples, FL. In 2003, he founded the Foundation for Orthopaedics and Regenerative Medicine, a 501(c)(3), of which he is the Medical Director. The mission of the foundation is to carry out cutting edge clinical research to advance stem cell, orthopaedic and regenerative Medicine, Provide education to medical professionals and the public, facilitate access for those who need but cannot afford care.

Much of the research he is a part of pertains to the use of Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cell Treatment focusing on osteoarthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, and Crohn's to name a few. More research is needed before his research can be approved by the FDA -  that requires a double blind study which will cost over $10 million. Dr. Chad said their is little motivation for big pharma to take interest in this since it is not a moneymaker for them. Most stem cell research is done outside of the U.S., even though the research has shown that it is effective.  Our stem cells are marshalled from fat or bone marrow cells, multiply them, combine them in platelet rich plasma and are injected into your body by a certified and fully trained physician. It also requires a high quality tissue lab. If the tissue lab is subpar, for instance dirty, then it opens the patient up to infection and possible death. Dr. Prodromos uses the highest caliber tissue lab in Colorado.
