Our speaker Vera Holroyd loves to travel. She met her husband while he was an exchange student from Indiana University's Kelly School of Business in her home country of Slovenia. After they married and moved here, they had to jump through hoops to obtain her green card. Once she had it, she found herself at a temp job at Rotary International! Jump ahead a few years (and kids) and she incorporated her love for travel and cooking into a blog - passportsandspice . She shared with us trends in travel during a pandemic. A couple of cons to traveling during a pandemic is quarantining and catching the virus. One of the pros, however, is less crowded destinations. Currently, proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test result are required along with very strict mask mandates in most countries. Many travelers looked to the National Parks and other great outdoor destinations, including glamping as a way to escape the confides of home during lockdowns. Families also booked more rental homes so multi-generations could be together. The trend is also showing travelers are slowing down - a stretch in the time they take off. Instead of one week, they may take a two or three week trip to a destination and immerse themselves in that community. Travel companies, airlines, and hotels offer great deals right now and have changed their cancellations policies to be more accommodating and or generous. This may be a great time to take a look at your bucket list and check some boxes off. Vera says if the deals are great and you can be flexible for those last minutes trips - do it! |
