Today, Eric brought us up to date regarding the collective effort to help HP citizens and businesses heal from the tragedy on July 4th. A group that’s being led by the city (and our fellow Rotarian and city manager Ghida Neukirch) includes D112, D113, HW Library, NS Legal Aid Clinic, Family Service, the FBI, IEMA, LCEMA, Red Cross, United Way 211, and others are planning for the resources needed to help the community recover. Eric, Jon Levey and Ginny Glassner (HP Chamber of Commerce), are focused on a fund that will assist HP business and employees that were impacted. In this effort, our Rotary Club will be the nonprofit partner to process donations. Among the ideas that members came up with are: - a monetary donation to the HPCF to help those in need
- donate part of the golf outing proceeds to this cause
- artistic bricks on the sidewalks with uplifting notes
- our Club recognize the city officials for their heroic efforts and leadership
- make ourselves visible in the parade next July 4th
- continue to support our interact students in their efforts to help the community as well
- look for proactive approaches to aid children who feel isolated and in need of mentoring or emotional support
Eric left us with this quote: "Good isn't undefeated, but it has a winning record" |
