Martha Gray was happy for the multiple family birthdays this week; Neil Dahlmann shared with the Club that Rick Nelson pledged $50 in honor of Paul Munk's amazing father who passed away this week and Neil was matching the pledge. Rick Heineman was happy to share the success of D113's Focus on the Arts program at HPHA. It was even bigger than 2019's success. Deerfield HS will begin it's Focus on the Arts program this year tailored to the school's strengths. He also reported the District sign a contract with the union with a focus on HPHS. Eric Ephraim was happy to be here and to report his son's college football team won their first game! Karen Dennis was happy for the beautiful day; Skip Jacobs also honored Paul's father and thanked Mary Beth for doing a great job; Mary Beth was excited because that night was the launch party for the latest issue of East On Central! Also, on October 14th, Laura Joyce-Hubbard, HP Poet Laureate, will be the featured poet for Highland Park Poetry at Madam Zsu Zsu's at 4p. Laura will also be our speaker on November 7th for Veterans' Day. She is an Air Force Veteran. 

 

 

 

Dr. Brian Smith is a fellow Rotarian from the Elgin Club. He has a couple best selling non-fiction books, Individual Influence and Positive Influence, both written with his daughter Mary Griffin. He has several businesses, and lectures around the country. Today he spoke to us about Influence - finding, being and building our influence. Keys steps to finding your influence is to  1) slow down, 2) focus, 3) understand yourself, 4) know your foundation, and 5) know your bias.  It was a very positive presentation and reaffirmed the Rotary's Random Acts of Kindness.
