Alan Wahlert, Ph.D. is Director of Learning and Communications for True North. They are currently in year two of a five year strategic plan after assessing their programs and services. Focusing on the strengths of True North, their reputation for behavior support, SEL, and whole-child positive approach to learning they involve families and cultivate a culture of collaboration and communication. They also have a strong vision for inclusion. True North also faces and tackles the challenges of a wide variety of cultures that pertain to different member districts. Among their objectives this year are a family "university", administrative mentoring and coaching, increase non-member usage, prioritize advocacy areas for members districts and improve communication practices. We learned of the story of a HPHS student who had some issues that took him out of class. With the help of True North and the staff development to assist him, he earned and learned his way back into the classroom with his peers, graduated, and developed work skills that have him working, and earning money with confidence and quite a bit of independence! Alan started off as a social studies teacher and swim coach in CPS at Lane Tech. He spent most of his career in High School District 214 at Rolling Meadows and Wheeling HS during which time he received his doctorate from Loyola University Chicago in Educational Leadership. He was also Director of Teaching and Learning at Lake Forest HS before coming to True North in July 2023. Calling Glencoe home, he and his wife and have three children - all in college! It was very interesting to hear everything Alan shared with us and his experiences in the classroom as well! We hope to see more of him and perhaps True North's Superintendent Kurt Schneider who is a member of our Club! If anyone else has ideas, has some time on their hands, or has a friend they think would love to know more about Rotary, please respond to this email. Don't be shy - come on back - we'd love to see you! |
